Principal's Message

 

Welcome to Smith!

I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving in Duncanville ISD and join the Smith community. My goal as the campus principal is to provide a safe environment where we inspire, support, and grow students. 

I find Smith to be an amazing learning community, powered by an amazing team of staff who really care about children. Our teachers are welcoming and dedicated to ensuring that your student receives the best education possible. Together we can help our students reach their full potential. We will continue to meet every child where they are and move them forward using strong instructional strategies. 

Families are valuable partners, and we encourage you to visit our school, consult with our staff and participate in all the great activities that we have planned this school year. The relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students and I encourage you to become involved in every way possible. We look forward to collaborating with you, our partner in educating your child.

We realize that elementary school education is essential preparation to student’s long-term success. With your support, Smith Elementary School will continue to be a positive environment where everyone is successful.

Me siento honrado por la oportunidad de continuar sirviendo en Duncanville ISD y unirme a la comunidad de Smith. Mi objetivo como director del campus es proporcionar un entorno seguro donde inspiramos, apoyamos y hacemos crecer a los estudiantes.

Considero que Smith es una comunidad de aprendizaje increíble, impulsada por un increíble equipo de personal que realmente se preocupa por los niños. Nuestros maestros son acogedores y están dedicados a garantizar que su estudiante reciba la mejor educación posible. Juntos podemos ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a alcanzar su máximo potencial. Continuaremos reuniéndonos con todos los niños donde se encuentren y haciéndolos avanzar utilizando estrategias educativas sólidas.

Mr. Luis Garza was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. He moved to Texas, where he attended Grand Canyon University where he graduated with a degree  in Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Garza began working in education, serving students in Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, and Duncanville ISD. Over the years, he has served in different capacities. He has served as a Bilingual Teacher, Math Center Teacher, and Assistant Principal.

His educational experiences have afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being.Mr. Garza believes that some of the most important components of a great school should start with building relationships and having a growth mindset, as well as collaboration with parents. In his educational philosophy, Mr. Garza firmly believes that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family. 

After graduating from Lamar University with a Principal Certification, Garza has served as an assistant principal for Duncanville ISD at Smith Elementary. Mr. Garza believes in the importance of having a school community that supports one another in the efforts of becoming our best selves in order to serve our students.

El Sr. Luis Garza nació y creció en Monterrey, México. El se mudó a Texas y estudió en la Universidad del Gran Cañón, de donde se graduó con un título en Currículum e Instrucción. El Sr. Garza comenzó a trabajar en educación, sirviendo estudiantes en Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, y Duncanville ISD. Al pasar de los años, el ha servido en diferentes capacidades. Ha sido un maestro bilingue, un intervencionista, y un Asistente de Director. 

Sus experiencias educacionales le han permitido la oportunidad de colaborar con un grupo diverso de gente para alcanzar la meta común de incrementar los logros de los estudiantes así como su bienestar. El Sr. Garza cree que algunos de los componentes más importantes de una gran escuela deberían comenzar con establecer relaciones y con tener una mentalidad de crecimiento, así como colaboración con los padres. En su filosofía educativa, El Sr. Garza cree firmemente que todos los estudiantes pueden aprender, dentro de un medio ambiente positivo, un fuerte liderazgo, un equipo educacional comprometido y enfocado, una comunidad comprometida y con apoyo de la familia. 

Después de graduarse de la Universidad Lamar con una Certificación de Director, el Sr. Garza ha servido como un Asistente de Director en Duncanville ISD, en la Escuela Primaria Smith. El Sr. Garza cree en la importancia de tener una comunidad escolar en la cual se apoyan los unos a los otros en sus esfuerzos por convertirse en la mejor versión de uno mismo para servir a nuestros estudiantes.
